Something Glowing This Way Comes

Postby JimJ[VT] » Wed May 03, 2006 8:08 pm

Couldn't wait to hook them up, see how everything sounded...may have some work to do with one, as I'm getting a crackling noise on startup with the left channel, but I don't know. Absolutely no hum except for the normal SET background hum that doesn't increase with volume. A few cosmetic blemishes, but nothing I can't live with.

Within the month I'm going to have a wooden cabinet finished for these, along with the Audio Research LS-1 preamp - not the NAD 3020 I'm just using temporarily here.

I know almost nothing about that stuff so post up some specs. It looks fancy, though.

Class A
8 watts per channel @ 8 ohms :)
Svetlana SV811-10 power tubes, running in single ended triode mode
RCA 6EA7 driver tubes
Maximum theoretical efficiency - 25%.

They work very well for that, too :D

Damn PE is out of stock on replacement SV811's...I think the left channel tube is a little noisy, hence the startup static. Better be getting a shipment in soon...

8 watts per channel? I can make that by rubbing my feet on the carpet.

That's where the Klipsch's come into play :) in-room 96dB/W efficient, HLCD's for midrange and highs.

Nice looking amps. This may be a lilltle late for info but PE shows they have the Svetlana's in stock , at present. I assume you were able to sell the other tube amp I was interested in but was unable to buy?
Pioneer 860, Soundstream 600-4, Directed 1100d, CDT IEK, CDT EF61CF, 2-IDQ-10's NoGOT-No gas on Thurs.
