Car sub in my room?

Postby bigpuss » Mon Jul 17, 2006 2:02 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking for a subwoofer that will rock my dorm and I just realized that I have a RE SX15 sitting in my basement. How would a car sub such as the SX work in a room?

A fifteen will tear the roof off your dorm. I have a 12" dayton titanic that I was working on last year in my dorm (sculpture dept and woodworking) and ran it in the dorm. It was insane in such a small room. Even with concrete ceilings and floors, neighbors two floors down were complaining. Go for it!

hell yea, a sx15 would rock, you could always get some PSU from old computers, wire all the twelve volt rails together and run it like that, make sure you have 1-200W ectra though, so you arent maxing out the PSUs.

Put it this way, you could still hear/feel a sealed ED e8a.44 two floors down in a dorm...

I modeled it in Unibox. A 4cf box with 4 pounds of polyfil will give you a Qtc of around .682, Fb of 58.42hz and an F3 of 60.26hz.

Ported for home theater needs a massive box.

im planning on building a table around a 18" driver, with the ports facing out the side and the driver facing down, on like 5-6" legs. its prolly going to be around 8-10CUFT, but it should blend in with the rest of the room

haha, I brought my little eD 12" K with me to my dorm room and we'd have dance parties with it. Sure car subs might not work as well, but it's not you won't hear anything if you throw your 15" in that little *** room...

why would you aim for midbass (-f3 of 60Hz?) from a 15inch sub, when it very nicely suits the same size box, tuned to 30Hz?
