Built a desk, have built-in speakers.

Postby 93CougarXR7SE » Mon Nov 13, 2006 6:12 am

Decided to make a desk to hold a bunch of stuff at once, keep my floor clean. I yanked some speakers out of an old big-screen in the pit, and built them into the desk. Keeps the floor and desk area less cluttered, so I have room for my amp and huge sub box. Possibly building a CD/DVD rack into the desk as well.

We got a spot buy on some Sony under-cabinet stuff, and I was thinking of getting a CD player or DVD player w/screen. $250 for the DVD player, and then we get our cost. I'd do that just because of the cost, and I'm also thinking of getting a TV with PC input, use that as my main computer screen, and also watch movies on it when I'm not on the computer.

Desk stands 5' tall, 36" wide, 32" deep, and I have 30.5" of legroom. Cost was around $50, because I got a bunch of wood from pallets, and throw-away from a lumber yard. I paid for the screws, posts, stain, and polycrylic coating.

I don't even remember what TV they're from. The mids are made in Germany, which is printed on the back. They have some nice crossovers, and the tweeters are Nokia, I believe.

The CS-G2000s are Pioneer speakers.

My sub box after I switched out the old MTX. (It can also be seen now sitting beside my desk, making a nice bedside table.)

I may go back to the MTX. It had better sound quality than the Kenwood, even though the MTX is 400wt. peak (and beat to hell), and the Kenwood is 600wt. peak. Probably just the box design (meant for JBL W10GTi). Or I may just get a 12", or something that can handle the power output of my amp better. My amp puts out a few hundred watts. It's a PE amp, or Apex Sr. amp. They both look similar. So I'm thinking it's somewhere between 250-350wt. rms.
