How do projectors fare as computer monitors for HTPC duties? What's the approximate lifetime on the projector bulb?
Just fine as long as you keep the resolution reasonable.. most guys that are running HTPC's on 8" CRT machines like mine are sticking to ~900 vertical lines of res.. Some of the specialty companies have taken 9" machines up to 4000x4000 for flight sim & VR, but that takes electronic mods to handle the video bandwidth.. And of course with a digital PJ you should match the native res..

Tube life depends on a lot of things, brightness & contrast settings, video content.. Can range from 4k hours to 12k+ hours if you treat them well.. Typical digital PJ lamps last ~2k hours..
