350 is a 350?

Postby ElementalG20 » Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:42 pm

My dad just purchased an 88' GTA Trans Am with a thrown rod :)

I'm sorta wondering if I find any random solid 350 if I'm a head swap/intake away from having a replacement motor? I'm looking at buying a truck to rob some parts and it's got a good 4 bolt 350 in it now that I dont "need" and it'd make a super cheap replacement for this car. I realize it may not be idea, but he wants to get it running cheap, and isnt worried at all about if its 130p or 230hp it'll likely end up being my 17yr old sisters car anyhow, we just want it to run fine for cheap :)

The truck is circa 78 by the way.

Thanks!

i would imagine cams might be different, but I'd guess everything else should be the same? just a guess, don't take my word on it.

Yeah, I figure some of the vitals are different, cam, compression ratio, that sorta thing. May as well swap cam and lifters out anyhow, or toss a new set in, not as if that's a huge undertaking when were already swapping heads and the motor is sitting on an engine stand :)

Hoping this would be an easy swap......also hoping that the original is rebuildable......I'd love to make a mean motor for my truck later in life :)

Block/cast should be about the same (I'd have to look it up in the manuals), but everything else is sort of up in the air...
