need help picking an amp

Postby the shue » Wed Mar 26, 2008 9:44 pm

hey guys need some help picking out an amp for my new setup. unfortunately my old amp i was planning to use is way to large to mount where i want to. i'll be powering a set of infinity kappa 682.7cf rated at 100 RMS and a MTX 4500 rated at 225 RMS. the prelimanary list i put together is

JL audio A4300 70*4 or 200*2
Kicker ZX350.4 60*4 or 175*2
MTX TC6004 75*4 or 300*2
orion HP4800 65*4 or 200*2
Precision power A600/4 50*4 or ??
Rockford fosgate T400-4 60*4 or 200*2
soundstream 80*4 or 260*2
US Amps XT800.4 50*4 or 260*2
Zapco I-450 50*4 or 180*2

some of these amps are older models but still listed as new stock. the prices are within the $200 - $300 rangeso thats not a factor. i would lean more towards SQ than SPL. the MTX sub may be a stop gap until i can get a nicer sub to fit the enclosure (I'm thinking that RE has a new very shallow mounting depth sub out the SL), but thats still a bit off.

thanks for the help in advance.

zapco and kicker are nice but a little underpowered. the rockford is pretty good, and the precision power is good. I'm sure all those amps would be fine. I'd just choose whichever one looks prettiest to you and has the power you'd like. Though if you want to upgrade the sub in the future it might be better to pick an amp that puts out a little more power when two channels are bridged.
