Newbie!!!

Postby luppij » Thu May 22, 2008 9:01 am

Hey guys. First post in this forum so i thought id follow the rules and introduce myself. My names Joseph, I live in Melbourne Australia, and I love my car audio.

My current set up (which is still being installed) is as follows.

1x - JL Audio 500/1v2 Amp
1x - JL Audio 300/4v2 Amp
1 Set - Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.1
1 Set - Infinity Kappa Coax 63.7i (if i can remember correctly)
1x - Boston Acostics G512-44 Sub
1x - Alpine CDA-9886 HU

All this is connected up with a 0/1 Gauge Kicker Power kit, with Stinger Series 3 RCA's and im using a speacilists home audio 8 Gauge Speaker Wire (99.997 OFC 255 strand) and going in to my lovely 1989 Holden VN Berlina.

This all brings me to my first question, im currently building the box for my sub (or atleast figuring dimensions) and the way that I have designed it means there is only 1.6cm from the end of my sub (magnet end) to the inside wall of the box. Is this enough? Is there a minimum clearance needed?

All opinions will be appreciated,
Thankyou

pretty quality stuff. Does that sub have a vented pole piece? if it doesn't you'll be fine. If it does, I think the general rule is to give it as much room as its diameter.

Im not really sure what that is? It says that it has "Radialvent® cooling technology". The sub only needs 1 cubic foot of volume for its best performance, and the recommended sub box measurements that came with the sub only left it with about 3inches of clearance.

If it has a vented pole piece it will have a hole on the bottom side of the motor (magnets)

Im not to sure if there is because there is a grill covering the bottom.
