I'd like to ask a favor

Postby BASS » Sat Jun 14, 2008 8:53 pm

I can't get WinISD to work right at all for me. it just freezes and I get no info whatsoever. Im currently running the factory recomended ported size box for the alpine type r 12" but Im not happy with how it sounds.

I know it can sound better than it does right now, and I know its the box. if I could get someone here to run the specs for me and post the results? also I plan on putting the sub in the spare tire well (not fiberglass tho) so more than likely I'll be using 4" round ports.

in anycase, I'd really appreciate the help if possible...

what kind of results are you looking for (both with the sub performance and as far as an output graph to show from winISD)? What box do you have now and what do you think you might want it to be?

yeah I guess you might need that huh?

right now its in 1.3 cube ported to around 33hz, but its very peaky. I want a nice flat curve for a nice SQ responce. I listen to a lot of heavy metal and hardcore stuff so I want it to blend nicely with my components up front.

the alpine site says 1.7 cube gross internal volume, and thats what I build it to, after port volume and sub displacement, takes it to 1.3 cubes.

Yellow is your box.
Green is 2.0 cubes net tuned to 25 hz.
White is 1.6 cubes net tuned to 28 hz.
Blue is sealed at 1.2 cubes.

Unfortunately, they all look bad. That hump just won't go away. If you want a sub that will blend well with your mids and with rock music I think you've picked the wrong subwoofer. Sealed would probably be best for your tastes given the situation.

green looks better than what I got tho, it would sound a lot better... but yeah, I can't understand why it would be that difficult. I've heard nothing but good things about these subs. with only 600 watts to offer the sub, I dont know if sealed is going to give me the volume Im expecting...

damn those adire subs for spoiling me lol

I just tried to DL winISD on my laptop, and I can't even get the T/S parameters into the system. it keeps giving me errors. I was gonna play around with boxes as big as 3 cubes just to see what I could come up with. I dont understand why the alpine subs aren't even in the software this time around...

I don't mean to hijack, but KU40, could you do a simulation for this one?

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=294-690&FTR=&CFID=3055500&CFTOKEN=78772576

High output over low end response... Something like a 30-35 hz tuning, should have relatively flat response but doesn't need to be ruler flat.

Thanks in advance if you can do this!

oh....I suppoooooose. :) That sub is crazy. winISD says it has an EBP of 107! Highest I've ever seen, ported box for suuure.

It also recommends a box of 2.1 cubic feet tuned to 45 hz when I first load it into the program. I don't even know what to do with this thing, it's unlike anything I've modeled before. I'll just put up some semi-random box sizes so you can get an idea of what they do, and if you want other sizes I'll put them in. It makes some funky graphs.

Image

Green is that 2.1 cubes @ 45 hz.
Pink is 3 @ 35.
White is 5 @ 30.
Blue is 10 @ 30.
Yellow is 25 @ 30.

It's tough to get a very flat response that goes lower than 60 hz.

KU, try 2 cuft at 35 Hz. It should step down 6-8 db but be fairly flat. That's the theory anyway!
