one RE 12" SX vs two 12" Alpine type-r

Postby 20inch » Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:34 pm

Whats up all this is my first post so woot to me. I currently have two Alpine type- r 12s on a fosgate P1000-1BD, Im about to hit the purchase button on a new 12"SX
but i am wondering how will the SX compare to the Alpines on the same amp? Also i was thinking of having a box build to port though the back arm rest in my 05 Chrysler 300 is that a good idea to get the most sound into the cab of the car?

The SX won't be as loud than the 2 type-r 12s.

Why not get a pair of SXs? That would stop the type-r 12s...

Well thats the plan as soon as i can sell off these Alpines, i was just wondering sense the SX is rated a 1000 rms and the Alpines are 500 rms i figured that 1 Sx would out do both Alpines or atlease sound the same, but what do i know im new to the car audio thing, I just need a little guidence so i though why not join you all to learn form the best :)

The power handling of a sub has absolutely nothing to do with output capability, at all. Ever. :)

good box vs good box the type rs might be a little louder but not much. SX is pretty beefy and will do wonders in a good box. u would get the least cancellation firing port and sub backwards

In just about any box, 2 type R 12s will be louder than 1 SX...

It is a real unfair comparison.

An experienced builder could easily make the RE 12s louder than 1 SX 12... In fact, I think the guys at RE got a pair of the RE 12s to do almost 150db on a TL in an Explorer, to put things into perspective..

When you have double the cone area, it is reall hard to be louder with just about any other single sub with 1/2 the cone area, this just isn't really a comparison.

while i do agree double the cone area does help its not a definitive. Ive seen tons of single SE 12s louder then 2 SR 12s

I always think that if you have double the cone in option A, option B will need to do at least double the stroke to compete.

I don't know what kind of xmax the Type Rs will do, but assuming that all things are equal, I don't think that 1 SX12 will be louder than 2 Type R 12s. Close, but not quite.

Get the SX anyways, it's a better sub :)
