RE SX 15" in 2.8box?

Postby Chiney » Sat Jul 12, 2008 3:13 pm

tuned to around 34-37hz
i havent decided as yet. but i am trying my best to build more of a SQ system with this...
Nothing thats going to be loud and boomy all over the place and literally disturbing the peace. lol .
another aspect is that space is a bit of a problem, the reason i took the 15" is because it is goin in another car, at a later date. :) with a totally different system in mind

what do you guys thing about that?

If that's all the space you have, I'd seal it.

Or try and tune a little lower, might be a little boomy sounding with a tune that high. See if you can squeeze another cube. If anything try and drop tuning to around 30, if you can still fit a vent in there.

Or sealed, like they said. Or get a 12.

SEALED?? RE doesnt recommend it.. but i really do not mind a seal enclosure. what volume do you guys recommend for a sealed box?

i am thinking a vented enclosure around 3.0cuft that is tuned to 30hz.. what u guys think now?

i already bought the sub..its pure sexiness! lol

Oh, I forgot the SX doesn't like sealed. You can try that ported box. Not sure how much it'll like it either, though.

Oh, I was wrong (again). I just modeled it up in winISD and 2.8 @ 34 hz doesn't look bad at all. For some reason I had it in my head that RE's subs liked boxes a little on the larger side. Guess that was a misconception. That's what I get for speaking before I do any real research.

I change my mind. I say build it! That size and tune will get you pretty flat down to 40 hz. If you want it flat to a lower frequency, you'll have to make the box bigger. For example, 3.8 @ 30 hz makes it flat down to 35 hz.

hmmm..thanks a lot for the speedy input.. RE does like big enclosures, but their subs are very efficient!

explain how u got a 3.8cuft box to flat out at 35hz thats tuned to 30hz ? what is the equation being used?

and yes..did a plot myself in WINiSD and got 2.995cuft @ 34hz ..

so i`m thinkin..3.0 @ 32hz might render some great low notes yet maintain some upper spectrum notes :) .. L-Port @ 3" in width :cwm17:
