The ultimate budget install

Postby 95Honda » Sun Jul 13, 2008 2:43 am

Well, a buddy of mine has a 1999 Golf and we decided to upgrade the system. The only thing I left was the stock speakers, they were MB Quart anyway.

So here is what I got, shipped to me in Germany from Parts Express for $299.86-

12" capeted 1.25 ft3 box
12" Dayton DVC sub
3" Aero Port
Bar speaker grill
Dual 100x2 bridgable amp
8 awg install kit w/RCAs
Speaker wire
Dual MP3/CD player w/aux in
IPOD adapter
IPOD charger
bag of screws

I finished the system and well, it wanged. Had way more bass than anything this cheap should have. That was about 2 months ago. I told my friend to give it hell and whatever broke first we would replace....

Well, yesterday the sub quit working. I paid $30 for this 12, I honeslty couldn't belive it lasted this long. He would get in, throw little jon on and turn the volume up as high as it would go... And listen to it like that for 30 min to and from work each day... I thought for sure the voice coil would have been smoked (it is 120wrms driver) but when I took it apart to see, the cone had seperated from the former, above the triple joint. The lead in wires to the voice coil had snapped.... Not the tinsels, the lead in wires from the tinsels to the voice coil... LOL.. The coil looked perfect, a SSF filter probably would have prevented this. But the $49 Dual amp doesn't have one... So I ordered the $75 DVC 12, twice the throw and stiffer suspention, it will probably last forever now....

Marshall asked me how much it would be to fly to Idaho....
