Damn China......

Postby 95Honda » Mon Jun 11, 2007 11:56 pm

I had a table at a gun show this weekend. I hadn't been to one in a few years and hadn't realized the price of ammo has more than doubled since last time I bought any..... Word is China has driven the cost of metals up so much that everything is getting overpriced.... I sure felt it this weekend... Cases of M33 ball I used to pay $169 for were $500 this weekend.....

Well, I guess I panicked a little, I already have about 2000 pieces of brass to feed her, and enough powder... Just not enough primers and good bullets.... I have plenty of AP projectiles, but they are only good for prarie dogs and stuff like that, they aren't even legal to hunt with in Washington anyway...

So I called Barnes and ordered 500 of thier new 750 Grain X-bullets just for the BMG.... and a bunch of primers... So I'm happy now I guess.... I should have enough to shoot the rest of my life as long as I don't act like a tard and have those 500 round days...

If you reload, buy as much as you can afford now, that's my advice.... If you don't reload, buy as much as you plan on shooting.... ever....

I know man. I am going to be reloading the .50 also. Maybe the war will end soon and we'll have surplus again. As soon as I have the cash I'm going for about 1000. I figure that will last a awhile...get what..4-5 rounds out of the cases so that's 4000rds if I get enough primers and bullets. I might have missed it somewhere, but what gun do you have? I am waiting on my paycheck to put towards a State Arms Rebel...Might throw it on the company tab for ballistics testing though. Also, where'd you get the primers? I can't find 35's anywhere already :(

I wish I had set aside more money to buy ammo a few years back.

XM193 or Q3131a used to be ~80-110 a case (500 rounds). Now it is up around 400 or so. No more 2.99 a box/20 for American made ammo. It is Wolf @ 4.79/box.

Well you can always take some of the money that you save in virtually every other aspect of your life by China's cheap manufacturing to buy more bullets.

I'm shooting the AR-50.

I ordered the primers from Widener's shooting supply, they are on the web. The lady I talked to said they had plenty left..... The only bullets they had were pulled AP.....

Honestly, there are like 200 suppliers in my FCSA supplier's guide, I'll bring it in one day this week and see if some of them have more stuff, I'll let you know...

I guess Chris Rock's idea of making bullets expensive is coming to light. He said something like "Murders would go way down if bullets were really expensive. A dude would have to think damn, is blowing this guy away worth $500? Or they would shoot once and go get the bullet back out of the guy."

I had thought about the AR, but fell in love with the State Arms. That thing is just beautiful. Not a bad deal at all either.

All I am finding is API or pulled tracers. If there's a stash of ball out there somewhere I'm not finding it. Thanks man.

All my Barnes bullets came in, they look real nice. I also found a place in Idaho called the Black Sheep that had AMAX and Hogdon H-50 in stock... So I bought all the AMAX they had (120 rounds) and 5 pounds of H-50. I also ordered a few of the Harlow solids from AAA ammo... I now should have enough to shoot all I want for a long time.... Or, an easy way to make some money in a pinch.... But that is pretty unlikely....

I packed up all my reloading components. I filled (24) 5-gallon buckets with Brass, bullets, powder and primers... That is for all calibers though, not just the .50... I will have to make 2 trips in my Dads 1/2 ton pickup because of weight to get this to storage on the other side of the state.... That and the 40 odd fat-50 cans of loaded ammo.....
