dash/monitor project

so, i got a 7.2 inch phoenix digital monitor from some mexican standing on a corner in mississippi and decided that i needed to put that in my dash. it's a 2001 ford ranger. glassing over the stereo and hvac holes and putting it in there. i plan to hook it up to a ps2 that'll be mounted in my console along with a pioneer headunit.

the pic with all the wires is what i have to sift through and sort out, 4/9 connectors on the back of the hvac interface wouldn't reach the glovebox, so i am now in the process of lengthening 20 or so wires to make them reach. it gives me something to do while the fiberglass is drying.

to glass the radio bezel, first i sanded it down, then stretched some fleece remnants that i got from walmart over it, superglued it down, and layed down some resin. let that dry, then two more layers of resin and mat. it needs probably 2 more layers and then some sanding.

another update since sooomany people are just THRILLED about the project. last few times i went to the shop i forgot my camera, so far in these pics i have layed down a layer of glass for structure, built up the sides holding the monitor in i used kitty hair, then finished it off with bondo (last pic in truck). i still have just a little more sanding to do, then im going to cover it in blue suede. any comments or questions? feel free to post.

That is a good start. It looks like you have a huge cavity to mount stuff in. That helps...a lot.

Looks good. I say go with some SEM factory match textured spraypaint rather than suede though

why no suede? i plan on doing my whole interior in dark blue suede and grey tweed, or a thick woven automotive carpet.

If that's what you want, then go for it :) I was just saying that I'd personally go that route.

well now that you mention it, if you're going to be touching the area alot, the oils from your skin might matt the suede down. It is a pita to clean.
