Come here to discuss the performance side of our vehicles.

Be sure to wax the car after using the aforementioned compound, as said compound will strip most protection from that area.

Does this compound take on the color of the car after it is applied or something?

It's just a rubbing compound. You wash it off.

it's an abrasive compound. it gently removes some of the paint(clearcoat in this case). If the scratch is in the clearcoat, the compound can remove clearcoat until the bottom of the scratch is level with the top of the clearcoat.

I'm at work so i can't see the pics to tell how bad it is.

I f the keying was directed at you, it probably wouldn't be a spiral. They'd probably key a message. Something like **** you, dick, pussy, ect. Being that it's a friggen spiral, it was probably some kid walking down the street and decided to key a random car.

I hate when people destroy property like this.

Ok, so it levels off the scratch with the rest of the body, but what good is it if it's still the silvery color of the scratch? It'd stick out just as much as it originally did...although I'm probably missing something in translation here.

^^if the scratch is deeper than the clear coat, you can't compound it out for the exact reason you said. Once you get down through the clear coat, you're screwed.

Chances are the key marks won't be able to be buffed out.

just looked at the pics, and it looks like it's down to the primer. It needs re-painting

no no no wait a second

can you hang your fingernail in the scratches?

if you cant hang your nail in it you stand a chance with LIGHTLY sanding it with hot soapy water and 2000 grit sandpaper....then buffing the clear coat back out with some 3m finishing compound called finesse-it...

that's low...

something worse happend to my friends car. at a party someone keyed a giant penis on his rear quarter panel and wrote some other stuff on the door. he got it repainted in sections and didn't need a full paintjob. unless your paint is really bad, i'd see how much sanding down and repainting that small section would cost...

...that's not a tsi is it?

The scratches are through the clear coat and base coat. They're not coming out.

The good thing is that your cars paint isn't faded, and looks to be in fairly nice shape. It should be cake for a decent shop to just repaint that small area and blend it in.
